Avove commits to the next generation of employees as it joins The 5% Club
Avove is committed to developing its people by joining The 5% Club, an industry-led initiative focused on driving momentum in the recruitment of its next generations of apprentices, graduates, T-Level students and sponsored students.
The 5% Club is a movement of more than 1,000 employers providing ‘earn and learn’ opportunities to develop the skills and talents people need to become more employable and create meaningful careers. Companies joining The 5% Club commit to raising the number of apprentices, sponsored students and graduates on formal programmes to 5% of their total workforce within five years. Members are also asked to publicly report their progress in their Annual Report. Current members range from SMEs to FTSEs and cover all sectors including engineering, transport and financial services.
Avove is on a journey to provide an increasing number of early career opportunities year on year linked to its growth strategy. The company takes its ESG responsibilities seriously, and is committed to increasing its social impact and creating prospects for young people. The company recognises that it needs to continue to secure future talent pipelines and take steps to grow its own talent in response to current and future skills shortages.
Gill Cronin, Director of Operations of The 5% Club, said, “We’re delighted to welcome Avove as a member. The 5% Club provides a fantastic network of HR and L&D professionals, sharing and learning from each other. All our members share an ethos of creating a skilled workforce through ‘earn and learn’ development programmes and helping people develop meaningful career paths.”
We are passionate about growing our own talent and encouraging young talent to choose a career in the utilities sector. The launch of our new earn and learn initiatives is a positive step forward for us to successfully support young people to transition into the working environment.”

Avove is proud of its current offering for both colleague development and for young people to experience the industry or begin their careers with the company. There’s a range of opportunities available, including developmental apprenticeships, T-Level placements and a structured graduate scheme. Building our apprenticeship programmes further, particularly for new, young entrants is a priority as well as increasing the number and range of opportunities in our early careers offering in general with some exciting initiatives in the pipeline.
