Avove’s Vegetation Management Team Protect Local School Children with Nut Allergies
Avove’s Vegetation Management Team volunteers time to support local primary school
Colleagues in our Vegetation Management team started our volunteering efforts in 2025 by supporting a local primary school in Cramlington, Northumberland. Our colleagues working across our Northern PowerGrid contract volunteered their time at Cramlington Village Primary School to remove hazel trees from their school garden to protect students who have severe allergies to the hazelnuts produced by the trees.

Safeguarding students whilst supporting sustainability
As we were working in the area, the school reached out to our team who volunteered their time, free of charge, to remove the trees. As sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Avove, our team looked to repurpose the timber from the felled trees to create a range of resources for the school, including logs for their fire pit and branches to use in their ‘Forest School’.
Cramlington Village Primary School was delighted with the work carried out by our team, saying:
“After hearing how we needed support in removing the hazel trees in our garden to keep our children with nut allergies safe, they very kindly volunteered their time for free! We will now be able to plant replacements to help to support wildlife. Thank you so much for helping to keep our children safe.”
