Our Executive Leadership Team completes half-marathon challenge for Mind and SAMH

On Saturday 12 October, our Executive Leadership Team (ELT) laced up their hiking boots and took on the challenge of a half-marathon hike in the scenic Peak District. Starting and finishing in Edale, the team covered approximately 13 miles to support our charity partners MIND and SAMH, and to raise awareness for mental health.

Members of the ELT, including Mark Perkins, David Holmes, Patrick Rafferty, Neil Cooney, Becky Kimber, Darren Jones, and Jeff Hart, were determined to complete the challenging route. Their dedication paid off as they finished the hike and raised more than £7,000 for MIND and SAMH.

Continuing to talk and raise awareness around mental health and wellbeing is crucial—not only at Avove but across the utilities and construction industry. Taking time out for this challenge was a great opportunity for us to check-in on each other personally and as a team. It underlined the importance of community and being there to offer support when it’s needed – not that anyone needed to be carried up Jacob’s ladder, you understand!”

Mark Perkins, Executive Chair

“We faced both a physical and mental challenge, pushing ourselves to complete the half marathon in under 4 hours and 30 mins. It was an excellent day, and as a team, we supported each other every step of the way, ensuring we made it through together.”

Neil Cooney, Business Development Director

A big thank you to Avove colleagues, friends, family, and supply chain partners who supported the team and contributed to this fantastic cause. Your support truly made a difference!

Mind helps one in four people in England and Wales who experience a mental health problem every year. The money raised will fund the charity’s vital work including the Mind Infoline and advice services, as well as the campaigning Mind does across the UK.
