Alexandra Griffith

Position: Principal Commercial Manager

Before starting her career in the water industry, Alex was training to become a midwife at college. Alex started a part-time job in an office in between college and enjoyed the working environment. Alex’s career started in the planning team, where she worked hard and gained vital experience across clean water accounts both on-site and in the office. Looking for a new challenge, Alex changed her career path to work in the Commercial team as a Commercial Assistant. Due to her hard work, determination and a genuine love for working in the water industry, she has made her way up the ladder to her current role as Principal Commercial Manager working on wastewater.

What does a Principal Commercial Manager do?

I manage the commercial team for the repairs and maintenance contracts across Yorkshire, which includes anything from small repairs to major complex sewer works. We ensure compliance with Avove systems, processes and procedures and work to tight deadlines.

Working closely with the Account Director and Principal Operations Managers, I manage a team of five and we oversee all of the contractual side of the works, including issuing works orders, management of the contract, subcontractor relationships and the analysis and reconciliation of all costs associated with the projects.

What do you like about working for Avove?

This is a fast-paced sector and I have been very fortunate to work across both clean water and wastewater contracts. As a team, we work hard to deliver excellence, and I believe that the company listens to its teams to help develop and shape how we work with our clients, customers and communities we work within.

I have worked for the company for more than 16 years and love working in the water industry. It is great to be part of a dynamic team that is making a difference in everyday life. We take for granted being able to turn our taps on and flush our toilets, but there is so much that goes on behind the scenes and as a commercial team we are involved from the beginning to the end of a project.

Do you have any advice for someone looking to join Avove?

Avove offers a variety of interesting and essential roles across both out on site and in an office environment. It is an inclusive and diverse place to work where I always feel respected and supported. Every day is different and just knowing we can make a difference to our customers and environment by coming to work is really rewarding.

It’s a great time to join the sector as it is changing by the day and looking at new and innovative ways to work. Being a part of this is amazing and Avove have some really exciting opportunities if you are looking for a move or a total career change.
